Whether your taste is for a traditional service with traditional and well loved hymns or a more casual service with contemporary songs – we have at all at St. James! Our music ministries are a very prominent part of who we are. We have several styles of worship music at St. James including traditional organ with a small choir and hymns, and contemporary Christian music with singers, guitars, flute, piano and drums.

We also have an annual musical event – Evening of Music – where all musical genres are highlighted! If you are interested in joining any of our music ministries and/or learning more, please contact the church office at office@stjamestempe.org or (480)345-2686.

NOTE: While our music is currently being pre-recorded due to COVID-19, there are still ways to get involved musically. Please get in touch with the church office at office@stjamestempe.org or (480)345-2686 for additional information.

8:30am Sunday Worship Service

A choir and organist support our traditional worship service on Sunday mornings and special events throughout the year. They lead the congregation in hymns from the Episcopal Hymnal and also perform special music during Holy Week and throughout the year, often featuring stringed, woodwind, and brass instruments in addition to vocal soloists.

10:30am Sunday Worship Service

This music team is a praise band type of singers and musicians who lead the congregation in contemporary Christian worship songs. We try to make a joyful noise unto the Lord and the emphasis is on leading the congregation in worship, not performing.

Special Event – Evening of Music

We also present an Evening of Music (EOM) every year. Our sanctuary becomes a bistro, with candle-lit tables, yummy food and a beer and wine bar. Past themes have included “Broadway”, “Americana” and “Music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.” In partnership with EOM, we hold a fantastic silent auction of treasures, gift baskets and delicious desserts. Proceeds from this auction benefit St. James programs and projects.
