St. James is very active in the community and we are involved in ongoing outreach projects, annual outreach events and special/one-time outreach efforts. Please contact the church office at office@stjamestempe.org or (480)345-2686 if you are interested in learning more about these efforts or getting more involved.

Angel Tree

At Christmas time we collect toys, pajamas and food baskets for 50 children in need and their families. The St. James youth play a big part in this effort by raising money, shopping and wrapping the gifts and hosting a party to distribute the gifts.

Blankets for Navajoland

Every year at Christmastime, we collect and deliver warm blankets for our neighbors in Navajoland. They definitely help with the cold winters in Northern Arizona!

Border Ministries

Our focus is on the children at the border. Donations of kids clothing, shoes, games/toys are greatly appreciated. During COVID-19, our collection efforts are on hold, but we will resume this effort very soon!

First Fruits Sunday

We celebrate the first Sunday of each month as First Fruits Sunday. We collect non-perishable food items for local food pantries. It’s a wonderful way to put our faith into action, and to continue our Lord’s mission to care for and feed our hungry neighbors.

Navajo Nation Collections

There are several collection efforts throughout the year to benefit the Navajo Nation. Collection of blankets, non-perishable food, hygiene and PPE items at least four times/year.

UMOM

UMOM restores hope and rebuilds lives by providing shelter, services and affordable housing for people experiencing homelessness in the Phoenix area. St. James assists in many UMOM projects: serving meals at the Halle Women’s Shelter on a monthly basis, participating in the annual UMOM Walk to End Homelessness, serving on the UMOM Women’s Auxiliary, attending the annual Birdsong fundraising luncheon and assisting with other special projects. During COVOD-19, many of these events are conducted virtually, but the need for funds is greater than ever!
